Why use an electrician for air conditioning
Every air conditioner runs on power, and plenty of problems with a new install start at the switchboard, not the unit. When IllaVolt does the job, one licensed electrician (NSW Electrical Licence No. 98471C) handles the circuit, the isolator and the unit itself. There is no second trade to book.

How an air conditioning job runs
1. Quote visit
We come out, look at the rooms, your switchboard and where the units can go, and talk through what you want.
2. Sizing
We size the system to the space, the sun it gets and the insulation, so it is not too small to keep up or bigger than you need.
3. Installation
We fit the units, run the circuit, test everything and tidy up before we leave.
4. Handover
We show you the remote or app, the settings that keep running costs down and how to clean the filters.

Air conditioning FAQs
Can an electrician install air conditioning?
Yes. Every air conditioner needs a safe power supply, and IllaVolt is a licensed electrical contractor, NSW Electrical Licence No. 98471C. We install the unit and do the electrical work, including the circuit, the isolator and a check of your switchboard. That means one business to deal with, not two trades to coordinate and chase.
Do I need a switchboard upgrade for air con?
Not always. Older switchboards with ceramic fuses, or with no spare room, can struggle with a new system, especially a large split or a ducted unit. We check your switchboard at the quote visit and tell you plainly if it needs work. If it does, we can take care of the switchboard upgrade as part of the same job.
What size air conditioner do I need?
It depends on the room size, ceiling height, insulation, windows and how much afternoon sun the room gets. A unit that is too small runs flat out and never catches up, while one that is too big can cycle on and off and cost more than it should. We measure up at the quote visit and recommend a size that suits the space.
Split system or ducted, which is right for my home?
A split system suits one room or an open living area and is quicker to install. Ducted suits whole home comfort, with zones and an outlet in each room, and needs suitable roof space. Plenty of homes start with one split system and add more later. We walk you through both options at the quote visit so you can decide.
How often should air conditioning be serviced near the coast?
We suggest a service at least once a year. Salt air eats away at outdoor coils, fittings and screws, so units close to the beach, or in holiday rentals that run hard over summer, may need a check every six months. In between, clean the indoor filters yourself every few weeks, it keeps the unit running well.
